For families prepping for fall ball season, this trend is a glaring warning sign.

Enforce True Off-Season Rest

The Golden Rule: Every pitcher needs at least 2 to 4 months of complete rest from overhead throwing every single year, with at least 2 consecutive months of total inactivity regarding competitive pitching.
Cross-training in other sports (like basketball, soccer, or swimming) builds overall athletic coordination and gives the elbow a much-needed break.
Watch for the Warning Signs of Fatigue
Coaches and parents need to actively monitor pitchers during games. Watch for:
A noticeable drop in fastball velocity or control.
An upright trunk lean or a "dropped elbow" delivery.
Slower recovery between pitches.
Remove the pitcher at the first sign of fatigue. Do not wait for them to ask out of the game.
